What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy/universal energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.
If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to become unwell and feel sick or feel stress. If it’s high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. It helps rebalance your chakras, to allow peace of mind and a feeling of relaxation.
Reiki is described in the Oxford English Dictionary as ‘A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel natural universal energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing process of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being’.
How Often Should I Have A Reiki Treatment?
The answer is, “It depends.”
It depends on several things. Things such as how long you have had the issue/health concern can mean the regularity of treatment should be adapted accordingly. For instance, a chronic condition can take longer to ease. Depending on how you feel emotionally/spiritually will determine also how often to have a treatment. Your reiki practitioner will discuss all these things with you.
What Should I Expect From A Reiki Treatment?
Reiki is performed with the receiver/patient fully clothed. You will be asked to lie down on the massage table or, if it is more comfortable, you can sit in a chair. The practitioner will then place their hands on certain points around and on your body. You may well feel a heat, which will be soothing and calming. You may feel slight vibrations, almost like butterflies in your tummy.
The practitioner may well revisit certain chakra points or areas on the body where the energy levels feel low or blocked.
You may be given some positive affirmations to recite out loud or in your head, whatever you feel comfortable with. You may have certain crystals placed on or around your body to encourage relaxation and healing. Your practitioner will work in the best way that suits you.
It is not unusual to fall asleep during the treatment, this is great as your body has totally rested and is regenerating itself. You may feel almost a little ‘spaced out’ after your treatment, possibly tired but certainly relaxed. Your practitioner will ask you what you felt or dreamed/saw during the treatment.
You will be giving a glass of water at the end of your treatment and all after care advice will be
Reiki is safe for children, adults, mothers-to-be, babies and animals.
